City Council Office
PASTOR TOM BARBER
We are very fortunate to have Pastor Tom Barber as our guest speaker this month! As everyone knows Pastor Tom is the CEO of the People’s City Mission. He will speak on the program, “Haulers Helping the Homeless”, in which garbage haulers collect unwanted clothing, shoes, purses and other wearables which can be recycled. Monies generated are used to help shelter and feed the homeless in Lincoln. “Haulers Helping the Homeless” is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation!!
Pastor Tom joined the People’s City Mission in November 2004. After obtaining his MBA and BA from Pepperdine University he taught sales and marketing classes at UNL, was on the staff at Christ’s Place Church and received his pastoral ordination. These accomplishments led Pastor Tom to guide the People’s City Mission through continual growth, providing shelter, food, clothing and medical care to over 30,000 individuals this year, and over 200,000 people since he joined the Mission.
Pastor Tom will explain how “Haulers Helping the Homeless” works and how citizens make a difference when using this unique service. Garbage haulers around the city collect trash bags of items identified by the green “Haulers Helping the Homeless” tag on normal trash days. In the explanation Pastor Tom will identify what is needed, where to obtain the identification tags, and most importantly how it improves the lives of fellow Lincoln citizens.
