City Council Office
We are very pleased to welcome Pastor Tom Barber as our guest speaker this month! Pastor Tom didnít set out to run a local City Mission, it just... happened. But how it happened matters a lot to Lincoln and the Peopleís City Mission. Pastor Tom left the corporate business world in 1992, and came to Lincoln. Tom worked at Christís Place Church, started a college ministry and worked as a marketing professorÖ and then he heard about the job opening at the Peopleís City Mission. He has been with the Peopleís City Mission since 2004.
What used to be the Peopleís City Mission Homeless Prevention Center is now the Help Center, known to Pastor Tom as the house of generosity. The center offers 10,000 square feet of what looks like retail space, with shelves full of housewares, clothes and furniture. The HelpCenter is a place where people who are struggling can come find things they need with esteem and dignity. The 32,0000-square -foot building also houses the Missionís recycling center. Revenue from recycling pays for about two-thirds of the cost of the new center, next year the Mission hopes to help 25,000 people and have the center completely self-supporting through recycling revenue.
Please join us Thursday to hear more about the Peopleís City Mission Help Center!
