Deaf and Hard of Hearing Smoke Alarm Program for Lincoln Residents
Most deadly fires happen at night while we are sleeping. The smoke alarm is designed to wake us up during a fire. Often times, however, the regular household smoke alarm will fail at waking up individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue is offering free specialty smoke alarms for Lincoln Residents age 5 to adult who are deaf or have mild to sever hearing loss. This program is also open to individuals who use cochlear implants.
If you have concerns that you are not able to hear the high pitch tones of your regular household smoke alarm, this program is available to you. All you need to do is register online using the “register” link at the bottom of this page. You will then be contacted by Lincoln Fire & Rescue and a time will be set up for us to install the units for you. LFR will work with you to decide the most effective place to install specialized smoke alarm equipment in your home. If you have problems with any of your fire safety equipment, please call us at (402) 441-7363
