Doug Ahlberg brought threat assessment packets for each department. These need to be back to Emergency management by 9/19/03. Doug has to turn them in by 9/29/03. These are related to the 2004 money for Homeland security. He also handed out info on the Aircrash exercise on 10/11/03 to each department. The meeting was then adjourned to take a vote on which radio system we will be going with. Eight departments voted immediately. Since the additional money from the grant that Southwest fire applied for was received the four departments outside the county who are members of mutual aid and wanting to be included in the radio project were given ballots and asked to meet with their departments and return their votes to Jim Densberger by the weekend. After Jim received their answer the votes were for the association to go with the 800 MHz system proposed by 911. 911 will be doing the project engineering for the new radio system and a lot of work needs to be done by them as well as the association. A mutual aid committee needs to be set up with one member from each department involved in the project. This means a member from each department must be present at the next meeting at LFR station 14 on 10/20/03. Two vendor Demos have also been set up that a member from each department should attend as we need input on everyone what equipment will best meet the needs of all departments involved.
These will both be held at Southwest fires station 1 at Folsom and Burnham. The first will be held on Tuesday 11/25/03 at 1900 and 12/08/03 at 1900. Representatives from D & D communications, Schafers and Raycom have been invited. 911 has also formed a committee of Dispatchers to work with their management and the radio shop employees to insure that the system will be user friendly to all involved. All of the dispatchers asked to be on the committee are members of fire departments involved in the project so they have a vested interest in seeing that everything works smoothly for all involved. A representative of Life Assist medical products will be attending the next meeting at LFR station 14. She will have products set out to view from 1800-2000 for those interested in seeing what they have to offer.
