The EMS meeting was called to order and everyone attending ( a very large crowd .) was asked to sign an attendance sheet. Dean Cole from State EMS made a short presentation on forming a county wide ambulance district that would set up a taxing base to pay for the options we might choose to provide for ALS service and Transport for those departments that only have QRTíS. He talked about the Gage County ambulance district and how it was set up, what kind of planning committee they had ETC. He said several counties in Nebraska had ambulance districts already in place such as Jefferson County which uses the taxes to fund a county wide ALS service or Scottsbluff which funds subsidy for ALS service from Valley Ambulance. Dan Wright from LFR also spoke and also introduced the new Lincoln Fire Chief. Doug Ahlberg also produced some maps showing examples of how the county could be split into several ambulance districts if that is what we wished. We have formed a committee to work on designing exactly what we want to go with. Greg Hall from Raymond has agreed to chair the committee and they have had at least one meeting so far. They are planning on soliciting help from many different areas to try and put together a plan for the best system for Lancaster County.
On a side note I would like to thank everyone who volunteered to stand watch over Jeremy Wach the firefighter from Wymore who was tragically killed in a house fire. Even though they ended up filling up all the open spots so all of you werenít need again thanks for volunteering. Also thanks to all that attended the funeral. I would like to have attended also but couldnít. I also want to apologize for getting this out so late but I have a separated shoulder and it takes me alot longer to type with one hand.
