New Recruits - October 2004


New Recruit, Stephen Brown Stephen Brown
Firefighter/paramedic hired by LFR on 10/18/04. Stephen obtained his NREMT paramedic licensure in August of 2004. A native of Hastings, NE. Stephen worked for Hastings Fire and Rescue after graduating from Hastings College with a communications degree in 2001.

Stephen recently attended the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD, for hazmat chemistry in August of 2004.

New Recruit, Ben Walkinshaw Ben Walkinshaw
Walkinshaw comes to LFR with 5 years of experience as an emergency room EMT and another 5 years of experience as a firefighter with the Fremont, NE. Fire Department. Wilkenshaw’s educational background is also extensive. He earned a degree in fire protection technology. He was completed scuba diver public safety levels 1 and 2. He’s certified in ice rescue and is a recent graduate of the paramedic program.

Walkinshaw and his wife Nicole will become parents of a baby boy in December.

New Recruit, Mark Rist Mark Rist
Rist is a native of Papillion, Nebraska. While doing ride time to earn his paramedic certification with LFR, Rist was impressed with the training and professionalism of Lincoln Fire and Rescue. He soon realized that LFR would be the best place for him to work.

Rist is a graduate of Papillion La-Vista High School, Southeast Community College in Milford and Creighton University Paramedic Program.

New Recruit, Chad Beerenstrauch Chad Beerenstrauch
Beerenstrauch was born and raised in Lincoln. He’s a 1994 graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School. He went on to graduate from the Fire Protection Tech Program at Southeast Community College in 1996. He also completed the State EMT Certification.

Beerenstrauch says, “Lincoln Fire and Rescue is a well respected department and I feel privileged to become part of the team.”

New Recruit, Mike Buehrer Mike Buehrer
Buehrer graduated from Yankton S.D. High School in 1990. He went on to study criminal justice and graduated from the Mckennan school of EMS in 1996. His work experience includes positions with Yankton County EMS, Lifenet air medical transport in Omaha, NE. and Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue.
New Recruit, Jodi Fougeron Jodi Fougeron
Fougeron is originally from Omaha, NE. She graduated from Creighton University with a degree in communication studies before coming to Lincoln to complete a masters degree in Business Administration. Fougeron recently completed her Paramedic certification. Off duty, Jodi competes in triathlons. She finished 5th in her age group at the Half Ironman National Championship last summer.
