Station #8 Beautifies it's Landscape
Benefits of the landscaping included:
Reduced watering and maintenance costs of a fescue lawn, reduce energy costs of station by using trees to moderate building temperatures, educate the public about sustainable landscapes, build community pride by including schools, neighborhood associations and the public in general to install and visit the sustainable landscape. Beautify the neighborhood by highlighting th use of native and “Nebraska “ tolerant plants.
The landscape will be maintained by the firefighters at Station 8. The design was developed with the help of Mark Canney of Lincoln Parks and Recreation, and Judson Evertson of the Statewide Arboretum. Generous neighbors in the Irvingdale area, near the fire station also contributed to this project.
The public is invited to stop by, and see first hand the end result of the beautiful landscape project.
