For Support of National Guard and Reserve
Lincoln, Neb. (March 28, 2008) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue Department will receive a Department of Defense Patriot Award on April 4 for going above and beyond the law in supporting its employees in the National Guard or Reserve. The ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. at Lincoln Fire & Rescue located at 1801 “Q” Street.
The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) will present the award to Chief Niles Ford and Captain Robert Watton for unfaltering support of military personnel. Ford and Watton were nominated for the award by Master Sergeant Anthony Hewitt with the Nebraska Air National Guard. Hewitt is presently deployed to Iraq.
In his nomination, Hewitt writes: “My supervisors have been supportive of my last two deployments. I’m sure it places a strain on manning, but they still support the members of the Nebraska Air National Guard.”
ESGR Nebraska Nick Novak will oversee the ceremony. Chief Ford will also sign an official Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve, which is issued by ESGR and recognizes the organization’s commitment and support of national defense.
ESGR is an agency of the Department of Defense established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and civilian employers through a network of 75 Nebraska volunteers and 4,200 national volunteers in 55 state and local ESGR Committees.
