Events Planned for EMS Week Lincoln Fire & Rescue has planned several special events in honor of National EMS (Emergency Medical Servicers) week May 18 through 24. This is the 35th year the American College of Emergency Physicians has designated a week to honor EMS workers who devote their daily lives to responding to medical emergencies. Lincoln Fire & Rescue and the Lincoln Emergency Communications/911 Center will honor individual life-saving efforts at a recognition event at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20 at the Peoples Choice Federal Credit Union, 2500 “N” St. (lower level.) More than 100 “Phoenix Award” certificates will be presented by Fire Chief Niles Ford to 911 dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics who were responsible for saving the lives of 28 citizens last year. “EMS teams are trained, equipped and devoted to providing lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Fire Chief Niles Ford. “This week, we recognize everyone who plays a role in our City’s emergency response system – physicians and nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators and administrators. I’m very proud of the role that Lincoln Fire & Rescue plays on this truly outstanding team.” The public is invited to open hours at all 14 fire stations from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 24. The events include tours and free blood pressure checks. Locations are:
