NETF1 Canine Kelly Name of K9: Kelly
Breed: Labrador/Golden Retriever
Handler: Vickie Senters, Exeter, MO
Additional Info:
September 2004, Canine Bulletin
Kelly was born January 28, 1989, Her mother, a full blood Golden Retriever, had 12 black puppies by the neighborhood Black Labrador Retriever. Kelly was one of those cute “free” puppies that someone took home and then decided she was going to be too big for the kids and so they sent her back. She (Kelly) came to live with Vicki at the age of 4 months.

They began training immediately for SAR work with MOSAR (Missouri Search And Rescue) where she excelled in wilderness, tracking, cadaver and water work. Kelly loved everyone she met and all her k9 buddies too. After several years of responding to numerous wilderness, water and cadaver searches, in 1993 Kelly and Vicki began training with FEMA for Urban Search and Rescue in hopes of being prepared to assist in times of disaster. Kelly and Vicki completed the FEMA US&R K9 Training at Camp Atterbury in Indiana in 1994. They were fortunate to be able to assist as an operation K9 Search Team on two deployments, hurricane Opal in Florida and the DeBruce Grain Elevator explosion in Kansas. Kelly retired from Search and Rescue work in 2000, at 11 years of age. Kelly left Vicki in 2004 at 15 ˝ years of age.
