The Communicable Disease Program’s mission is to reduce the spread of communicable disease within the community. The program works closely with other areas of the Department, as part of the Department’s Epidemiologic response team and in situations such as foodborne or child care outbreaks, with our Environmental Public Health Division. There are several methods that program staff use to accomplish its mission. These methods include: Active and passive surveillance systems for identifying and tracking communicable disease activity within the community. Doing follow-up epidemiologic investigations on reportable diseases. Managing communicable disease outbreak investigations Public education through media releases, interviews and presentations Provider education through physician advisory communications and consultation.
