  • Can my children get immunizations (shots) at the health department?
    Yes, the health department clinic can give children their shots if you do not have a regular health care provider to do this.
    1. The clinic is at 3140 N. St. and is open from 8:00 to 4:00 Monday through Friday.
    2. There is an administration fee of $13 for single shots and $15 for multiple shots.
    3. You must bring your child(ren)'s immunization record with you to the health department.
    4. CHILDREN MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN.
  • Can I see a healthcare provider about STD's (sexually transmitted diseases) at the Health Department?
    Yes, STD clinic is held two times a week.
    1. Tuesday afternoons from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
    2. Services are confidential.
    3. The cost is $35 each visit.
  • Can I see a healthcare provider at the Health Department if I am sick?
    Inviduals who are eligible for General Assistance can be seen by a physician. Call 441-8065 for more information or to make an appointment.
  • Where can I find help to get transportation for medical appointments?
    The Information & Referral Center can help if you have Medicaid insurance. In Lincoln, call 441-8065. You will be asked for your Medicaid ID number and health plan when you call.

Medicaid questions

  • How can I apply for Medicaid - Nebraska Health Connection/Kids Connection?
    You must complete an application and send it to the application review site in Lincoln. There are several ways to get an application:
    1. If you are pregnant call 441-8065 to schedule an appointment.
    2. Call the local HHS office at 402-471-8845, or 402-471-7000 and ask for an application to be sent to you.
    3. Pick up an application at Lancaster County HHS office - 1050 "N" St., Suite 250 (Gold's Building).
    4. Call the Nebraska Health Connection / Kids Connection office at (402) 471-7910 to have one sent to you, or pick up an application at 2662 Cornhusker Highway, Suite 7, in Lincoln.
    5. Link to the HHSS website and download the application:

    6. Outside of Lancaster County call 1-877-NEB KIDS (1-877-632-5437) or call the local HHS office serving your county.

    7. There are also certain medical providers or other health services organizations that have applications.
  • How long does it take before I know if I've been approved for Medicaid?
    Once the application is received at HHS, it can take up to 30 days. A caseworker will call you when it is complete. If you do not hear within that time, you can call HHS at 402-471-7000.

    If you have Medicaid Managed Care, call Nebraska Health Connection / Kids Connection:

  • How can I find out the name of my HHS caseworker?
  • If you have Nebraska Medicaid, call the local HHS office serving your county.
