Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department Community Health Services The DOUGLAS Plan |
"Most women have their first (doctor) visit for prenatal care at eight weeks of pregnancy or later, yet the period of time before the first prenatal visit carries the most risk to fetal development." American Family Physician, 2002
"49% of pregnancies in the United States are unintended (unwanted or mistimed)" Henshaw 1998
With the recognition that 50% of pregnancies in the US are unintended, preconception health is moving to the forefront of Public Health Initiatives. The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is working to meet the preconception health goals set forth in "Healthy People 2010" and this work includes developing innovative educational outreach programs.
The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department is proud to announce "The DOUGLAS Plan: A Woman's Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle". Women's healthy choices during their childbearing years have been proven to result in positive prenatal and infant outcomes. The DOUGLAS Plan provides women the information they need to make positive lifestyle choices.
Our DOUGLAS team of Public Health Nurses is available for large or small group presentations. Additionally, the plan has a full-color brochure containing all the DOUGLAS information. These brochures are available in limited quantities.
If you are interested in either a DOUGLAS presentation, or in brochures, please contact:
