Mayor Don Wesely and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Public Building Commission today invited the public to the activities surrounding the official opening of the Lancaster County-City of Lincoln Government Center May 5 and 6. The Center includes the County-City Building at 555 South 10th and the Justice and Law Enforcement Center at 575 South 10th.
"These are the public's buildings, and this will be an excellent opportunity for area residents to see where we conduct the public's business," said Mayor Don Wesely. "While some of the areas have been occupied for some time, we felt it was appropriate to have an official opening for both buildings to mark the progress that has been made."
The grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting are set for 1:30 p.m. Friday May 5 at the east entrance of the Justice and Law Enforcement Center. The ceremony will include remarks by officials, a color guard from the Nebraska National Guard and a performance by the Voices of Destiny choral group from Lincoln High School. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the building. Public tours of both buildings will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6.
