Mayor Don Wesely today announced that the two current Parks and Recreation Superintendents will manage the department until a permanent director is found. Current Director Jim Morgan's last day is May 19, and Wesely hopes to name a replacement by early June. During that period, the department will be managed by Jerry Shorney, Superintendent of Operations, and Steve Hiller, Superintendent of Administration and Community Services.
Morgan, who had been director for eight years, announced his intention to resign last month after being offered a position as Parks Superintendent in Madison, Wisconsin. The Mayor formally accepted his resignation a week ago after the Madison Common Council voted to confirm the appointment of Morgan, a Wisconsin native.
Newpaper advertisements for the position have been placed, and applications will be due by May 26th.
