Wesely Plans To Fill Health Director Position Quickly

Mayor Don Wesely today said he plans to fill the position of Health Director of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department as quickly as possible to maintain continuity in the Department. Leon Vinci resigned as Director Monday night after being suspended by the Mayor Monday morning.

"I believe we have many quality candidates for the position within the Health Department and the community," Wesely said. "In the interest of continuity for the community, I do not plan to conduct a national search." Wesely said those interested in the position should contact his office in the next two weeks.

Wesely named Carole Douglas, Chief of the Public Health Nursing Division, as Interim Director. Wesely said he is reviewing the current job description, which calls for the Health Director to plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate all activities and programs of the Health Department.

The position is unclassified, and the Health Director reports directly to the Mayor. The Mayorís selection for Health Director must be confirmed by the City Council, the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners and the Board of Health.

Vinciís resignation was due to a difference of opinion over compensation and the administrationís directives and policies.
