Mayor Don Wesely will attend this evening's Hawley Area Neighborhood Association cookout, an event planned for the "National Night Out Against Crime." The cookout begins at 6 p.m. at McWilliams Park, 25th and "T" streets.
"One of the reasons we enjoy a safe city is neighborhood involvement and the willingness of citizens to support anti-crime efforts," said Wesely. "National Night Out has become the nation's largest crime prevention event, and I encourage all citizens to take part in this 18th annual observance. Together, we can send law breakers the message that we support our law enforcement officers, and we do take a strong stand against crime in our city."
From 6 to 10 p.m. tonight, citizens are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with their neighbors. Police officers will also be visiting neighborhood events. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored by the local Neighborhood Watch Program.
