Mayor Asks Lincoln Residents to Display Flags

Mayor Don Wesely has asked residents and businesses in Lincoln to display the American flag as we respond to the terrorist attacks on our country this week.

"As I travel around Lincoln, I am proud to see many American flags flying from homes and businesses," said Mayor Wesely. "This is an opportunity for us to show our patriotism and the pride we have in our country. These flags will also be a sign of support for the brave workers involved in rescue operations at the disaster sites and for all those suffering during this tragedy."

All government buildings and facilities have been directed by President George Bush to fly their U.S. flags at half staff until sundown Saturday, September 22. Governor Mike Johanns has extended the order to include state flags. Businesses and individuals are also asked to fly their flags at half staff if they are on poles. Flags not on poles can be dipped or displayed in any appropriate manner. Many web sites feature information on proper display of the flag.
