East "O" Street Preliminary Work Begins Monday

Preliminary work on the East "O" Street project is scheduled to start Monday, February 18. It will include the temporary closure of business driveways on the south side of "O" Street between 53rd Street and Cotner Boulevard. Customers will be able to access the businesses through side streets and the alley running between 53rd and 56th streets.

The driveways will be blocked because Constructors Inc. is closing the right-hand lane of eastbound traffic to leave room for workers and equipment. The contractor will cut out curbs and sidewalks on the south side of "O" Street and lay temporary asphalt pavement. The temporary pavement will make room for a new lane of traffic when Constructors Inc. shifts all "O" Street traffic to the south side of the street March 18. At that time Constructors will start demolishing and reconstructing the north side (westbound) lanes.

A public information meeting on the construction is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7 in the cafeteria of Eastridge Elementary School, 6245 "L" Street. Representatives from the City Public Works and Utilities Department, The Schemmer Associates, and Constructors Inc. will be available to answer questions from the public in an open-house setting.
