Mayor Don Wesely announced today that the 84th Street water and traffic improvement project has finished a week ahead of schedule, and 84th Street will re-open today at 1 p.m. The project, which began in June 2001, widened 84th from four to five lanes between Pinedale Avenue and Northwoods Drive. It also included the installation of a new 48-inch water main to convey water from the Vine Street reservoir to a new reservoir at Yankee Hill Road.
“This project gave us the opportunity to expand our water system and increase traffic safety,” Mayor Wesely said. “By coordinating these two projects, we did not have to close this major arterial twice. I want to thank the citizens for their patience during this major project. I also want to thank those involved in the project for their hard work.”
The project also includes the addition of dual left turn lanes on 84th Street at the “A” Street and “O” Street intersections and the installation of a traffic signal at 84th and Vine Streets. Vine Street is scheduled to remain closed from 84th Street to Sierra Drive until the end of September.
The Schemmer Associates designed and administered the construction, and the contractor was S.P. Olson Enterprises.
