New Haymarket Parking Garage To Be Open On Game Days
Garage expected to be ready for daily use by late September

Although the new Haymarket Parking Garage on the northwest corner of 9th and "Q" streets will not be open for daily use until the end of September, it will be open for all University of Nebraska home football games this season. That includes the season opener Saturday, August 24 against Arizona State University; the August 31 game against Troy State; and the September 7 game against Utah State.

"The addition of 400 new parking spaces in the Haymarket has been much anticipated by businesses and patrons alike. It is a beautiful addition to our downtown,"said Mayor Don Wesely. "Having the new garage open in time for the first football game will help alleviate the game day parking crunch. I want to thank the contractor for having the garage ready on time and the public for their patience during construction."

The new garage will open at about 9 a.m. game days and will remain open until the cars have cleared. The charge for parking at the new Haymarket Garage during home football games will be a pre-paid rate of $10, the same rate charged at Que Place, University Square and Market Place garages.

Final completion of the new garage is scheduled for September 30. When it is open for daily use, the rate will be the same as other city garages $1 for the first hour and 75 cents for additional hours.

The remaining work includes architectural features, electrical work, parking equipment, landscaping and additional work on the northwest stair tower. A grand opening and ribbon cutting are scheduled for Thursday, August 29.
