Broken Water Main Forces 17th Street Closure
City attempting to re-open street prior to Husker football game

A broken water main just south of Holdrege Street has resulted in the closure of 17th Street from Vine Street to Holdrege. The buildings along 17th between "Y" and Holdrege will not have water until the main is fixed. The Lincoln Water System (LWS) expects to have service restored this afternoon.

Traffic on 17th Street is one way north and is being re-routed onto Vine. University of Nebraska-Lincoln traffic between Vine and Holdrege streets is being re-routed to "Y" Street. Kick-off for the Nebraska - Missouri football game is 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and crews are attempting to repair the broken main and replace the pavement in time for the game-day traffic.

LWS officials say the break in the water main may have been caused by corrosion.
