East "O" Street Traffic to Shift Sunday Traffic on East "O" Street between 52nd Street and Eastridge Drive will shift to the south side of the street at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17. Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction. A center turn lane will provide access into businesses along the south side of "O" Street. The traffic shift is scheduled to remain in effect until July 1, 2002.

Business driveways on the north side of "O" Street will be closed during this time. Customers can still reach these businesses from side streets and alleys. Motorists can watch for directional signs put up by business owners.

Beginning March 18, Constructors Inc. will start demolishing and reconstructing the north side (westbound) lanes of "O" Street. A water main will also be installed in the road. Construction will begin at 52nd Street and move eastward.

New permanent traffic signals will help to control traffic during and after construction at the intersections of 52nd and "O" streets; 46th and "R" streets; and 52nd and "R" streets. The City encourages drivers to use "R" Street and Vine Street as alternatives to "O" Street for east-west travel.

Portions of two "O" Street intersections will be temporarily closed during this construction:

Access to 52nd Street north of "O" Street will be closed for three to four weeks beginning March 17.

Access to Lyncrest Drive north of "O" Street (the southwest entrance to Gateway Mall) will be closed until July 1.
