Mayor Don Wesely and the directors of City departments will paint a room at the Malone Community Center, 2032 "U" Street, as a service project to observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 20.

"A major theme of the holiday is 'A Day On, Not a Day Off,' and we wanted to put those words into action," said Mayor Wesely. "We know there are many others in Lincoln whose employers observe this important holiday. We want to encourage them to take some time Monday to give back to their community in honor of Dr. King."

Mayor Wesely and department directors plan to begin painting at 10:30 a.m. and expect to be done by early afternoon.

The paint for the project is being provided by Sherwin Williams Company, 235 N. 46th Street, and supplies are being provided by ICI Paints, 1265 South Cotner Boulevard.
