City of Lincoln Fourth of July Celebration
Oak Lake Park - Parking Lots and Road Closures

PUBLIC PARKING:

  • North 1st Street and Cornhusker Highway, southeast corner
    All traffic entering this lot will enter southbound on 1st from Cornhusker. Following the fireworks display, all vehicles exiting this lot will be directed north to Cornhusker and Superior. Traffic from the north is encouraged to use this lot.
  • Sun Valley Boulevard and Charleston Street, southwest corner
    All traffic entering this lot will enter from SunValley at a temporary driveway located 300 feet south of Charleston. Following the fireworks display, all vehicles exiting this lot will be directed south on Sun Valley toward West O Street. Traffic from the south is encouraged to use this lot.
  • Haymarket Park, Sun Valley Boulevard and Line Drive
    Parking will be allowed in designated lots until 3 p.m. when the lot will be reserved for those attending the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball game in the evening. Following the game and fireworks display, all traffic exiting Haymarket Park on Line Drive will be directed north on Sun Valley to Cornhusker. Traffic exiting the east lots of Haymarket Park and north of Charleston will be directed east on Charleston to 10th Street.

The Oak Lake Park main parking lot, north of Charleston and west of Sun Valley Boulevard, will be designated for handicapped parking only. Traffic entering this lot will be directed north from Charleston by a parking attendant. Handicapped stickers and hanging tags will be required. Following the fireworks display, all traffic exiting this lot will be directed south on Sun Valley toward O Street.

Those using the StarTran shuttle should use UNL parking lots 8 and 9 west of 14th Street at Avery Avenue. One bus will begin running at noon with additional buses running from 5 to 8 p.m. Buses will run the loop continually throughout the day with an anticipated turn-around time of 15 minutes. Vehicles leaving the UNL lots will be encouraged to use 14th Street.

Several public and private parking lots located within the Haymarket Area will be available for vehicle parking throughout the day and evening. Fees for parking in these lots will be collected. Those parking in the Haymarket are encouraged to use the pedestrian overpass bridge from 8th and T streets to Haymarket Park.

ROAD CLOSURES:

  • Charleston Street will be closed from 1st Street to Sun Valley Boulevard from Thursday afternoon through Saturday evening.
  • The road closure gates at 6th and Charleston streets, 6th and X streets and 6th and Vine streets will close about 90 minutes prior to the start of the baseball ball game. Only the gate at 6th and Charleston will reopen after the ball game.

TRAFFIC FLOW RESTRICTIONS AFTER FIREWORKS DISPLAY:

Following the fireworks display, traffic patterns will be adjusted to keep traffic moving out of the Oak Lake Park area. Affected streets will be Sun Valley Boulevard; Charleston Street; 10th and 11th streets south of Cornhusker Highway; and Cornhusker Highway at the I-180 entrance ramp.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Parking along the roadways surrounding Oak Lake Park and Haymarket Park will only be allowed in spaces which permit on-street parking.
  • Many roadways surrounding Oak Lake and in the North Bottoms area will have additional parking restrictions.
  • Those who wish to only view the fireworks display are encouraged to come early and prepare for delays in exiting following the event.
  • Drivers are encouraged to park only in spaces that will allow legal parking. Jumping street curbs and using private driveways are prohibited.
  • Several areas and parks outside the immediate Oak Lake Park area will provide quality viewing of the fireworks display. Individuals are encouraged to and scout out these areas prior to the July 4th weekend.
