Welcome Back to East O Day

Whereas, the increased traffic volume on East O Street and safety concerns made it necessary to undertake a widening project on this important east-west route through Lincoln, Nebraska; and

Whereas, the City of Lincoln partnered with the State of Nebraska, The Schemmer Associates and Constructors Inc. on this major public works project; and

Whereas, this project widened East O from two to three lanes in each direction from 52nd Street to Wedgewood Drive and included work on adjoining streets; and

Whereas, both phase one and two of the project were finished ahead of schedule; and

Whereas, motorists are now learning the advantages of turning right to go left with the implementation of the one-way pairs system, designed to increase safety at two major intersections and to avoid street widening in residential areas; and

Whereas, many people deserve appreciation and congratulations on the completion of the project, including the construction workers, the businesses who made an extra effort to provide access and information for their customers, and the motorists who showed considerable patience during the construction phases,

Now therefore, I, Coleen J. Seng, Mayor of the City of Lincoln, Nebraska, do hereby proclaim October 21, 2003 as Welcome Back to East O Day in the City of Lincoln and urge all citizens to celebrate the completion of this important street improvement project.
