21 EDUCATIONAL ACCESS KICKS OFF THIRD SEASON OF NEBRASKA WESLEYAN FOOTBALL

21 Educational Access (Time Warner Cable channel 21 in Lincoln) has announced its Nebraska Wesleyan Football telecast schedule for the 2006 season. This is the third year that 21 Educational Access has carried Wesleyan football on a tape delayed basis. All home games will be telecast this year, as well as one road game against Doane College Saturday, October 7.

More viewing options will be available this season. The games can be seen at the viewers’ discretion on “Nebraska On Demand” (Time Warner Cable channel 10). The games also will be video-streamed on the City Web site at lincoln.ne.gov. The contest against Doane also will be available on KOLN-KGIN TV’s sister station, “My TV” (Time Warner Cable Channel 10).

“The feedback we’ve received in past seasons has been tremendous, and Nebraska Wesleyan University has been outstanding to work with,” said Bill Luxford, Operations Manager for 5 CITY-TV/21 Educational Access. “Let’s face it -- in the fall most eyes are on the other football team in town. We’re pleased to be able to provide some exposure and recognition for the Prairie Wolves as well.” Luxford said that 75 sporting events were aired on 21 Educational Access last season. Veteran sports announcer Jeff Motz will handle the play-by-play duties.

“The Nebraska Wesleyan football program is once again proud to be in partnership with Channel 21 for the telecasts of our 2006 home football games,” said Wesleyan Head Coach Brian Keller. “We are particularly looking forward to the first ever away game telecast of our game with Doane College, our long-time rival. The opportunity for our out-state parents and friends to view the tape-delay broadcasts on the Internet and through their local cable providers is an added bonus and a unique situation for a school of our size.”

Time Warner Cable praised the production crew and welcomed the added value opportunity for its viewers. “Last year, 21 Educational Access did a great job in covering a variety of sporting events, and we’re excited that they’re committed to continuing this season,” said Ann Shrewsbury, Time Warner Public Affairs Manager. “They have a professional crew and great production capabilities. We appreciate their efforts in helping add value to our customer’s cable service, and airing the games on ‘Nebraska on Demand’ is just one more service we can offer at no additional charge.”

Three Wesleyan volleyball games also will be telecast on a tape-delay basis this fall on Channel 21. Slated for airing are the games against Concordia on Tuesday, September 5; Hastings College on Tuesday, September 12; and Doane on Tuesday, September 19.

The 21 Educational Access Nebraska Wesleyan football telecast schedule includes:

  • Saturday, September 2 - Briar Cliff University at Nebraska Wesleyan
  • Saturday, September 16 - Midland Lutheran College at Nebraska Wesleyan
  • Saturday, September 30 - Morningside College at Nebraska Wesleyan
  • Saturday, October 7 - Nebraska Wesleyan at Doane College
  • Saturday, October 21 - Dakota Wesleyan at Nebraska Wesleyan
  • Saturday, November 4 - Concordia University at Nebraska Wesleyan

Sponsors for the telecasts will include Union Bank, Park It Downtown, Lincoln Electric System, Time Warner Cable and Nebraska Wesleyan University.
