Open houses May 23 also part of National EMS Week Those responsible for saving the lives of 21 people in 2008 will receive Phoenix Awards Tuesday, May 19. The annual awards ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. at the People's Choice Federal Credit Union, 2500 "N" St. Lincoln Fire & Rescue and the 911 Emergency Communications Centers present the awards as part of the 36th annual National EMS Week May 17 through 23. Fire Chief Niles Ford will present more than 100 certificates to the 911 dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics who responded to calls that resulted in a cardiac arrest "save" - reviving a patient who is found by EMS without a pulse and not breathing, or "clinically dead." Ford said National EMS Week honors those emergency medical service workers who daily devote their efforts to respond to those with medical emergencies. This year's theme is " A Proud Partner in Your Community." As part of the observance, all fire stations in the City will host open houses from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23. The public can tour the facilities and equipment and receive free blood pressure and pulse oximeter checks. Locations of the fire stations are:
