Assistant Library Director Greg Mickells said the computer outage was a result of a huge power surge December 23rd that damaged a number of library servers. The system was shut down to prevent additional damage and correct the situation.
I want to thank the public for it patience as we worked to restore full service," Mickells said. "The good news is that we have installed a system for protecting against these kinds of electrical irregularities, so this problem should not come up again.
During the computer shut down, libraries remained open except for the holiday closure on December 25 and the closure for weather on December 26. Library customers were able to check out materials with their library cards, and staff members were available to answer questions and assist in finding materials.
Any changes in customer records due to the computer shut down have been corrected. No customers will be assessed overdue fees during this time.
