Emergency Training Exercise Planned Monday At Haymarket Park

Media are invited to cover an exercise simulating a transportation accident involving radiological material the morning of Monday, March 15 at Haymarket Park. The exercise is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Niles Ford said Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to bring the training exercise to Lincoln.

Ford said the exercise is designed to evaluate the ability of Lincoln's emergency responders to recognize the radiological hazard, isolate the area, treat patients and decontaminate personnel.

In addition to LFR, DOE and NEMA, other agencies involved include the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department, the Lincoln Police Department and the 911 Emergency Communications Center.
