Mayor Chris Beutler today commended the City Finance Department and City Controller Peggy Tharnish for earning Lincoln a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 26th straight year. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) presented the award for the City's comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).
"This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting," Mayor Beutler said. "This award tells our citizens that their tax dollars are being handled by some of the best financial professionals in the nation."
Tharnish also received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement as the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning financial report. She commended Assistant City Controller Jane Tillman and Accountant David Scheuler for their work on the report. The CAFR is available on the City Web site at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: finance).
The purpose of the GFOA, a nonprofit professional association, is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by identifying and developing financial policies and practices and promoting them through education, training and leadership.
