Lincoln Fire and Rescue (LFR) invites the public to activities planned in conjunction with "National EMS Week" May 16 through May 22. National EMS Week honors and recognizes the life-saving efforts and devotion of those who respond to medical emergencies.
LFR Chief Niles Ford and the 911 Center will honor those responsible for saving the lives of 25 residents in 2009 with the presentation of Phoenix Awards at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 18 at the People's Choice Federal Credit Union, 2500 "N" St. The event also will include the presentation of more than 100 certificates to 911 dispatchers, firefighters and paramedics who responded to EMS calls that resulted in a cardiac arrest "save." A "save" is defined as reviving a patient who is found by EMS personnel without a pulse and not breathing who is then resuscitated and later released from the hospital.
Residents are also invited to open houses at all LFR fire stations from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22. The public is invited to tour any fire station facility and see the equipment LFR uses. Firefighters also will conduct free blood pressure checks and pulse oximeter checks. The LFR fire station locations are:
