Mayor Chris Beutler today announced that seven members of the Lincoln Fire & Rescue (LFR) specialized water rescue team will leave today to assist and supplement local resources of the Norfolk Fire Department in the recovery of the railroad worker who has been missing since the bridge collapse on Tuesday, June 15.
Mayor Beutler said that the City of Norfolk inquired earlier this morning about the availability of LFR's water rescue team to assist in a flood water rescue effort. LFR was granted clearance and the seven member team was scheduled to travel to Norfolk shortly before noon.
"This has been a wide-spread emergency that has impacted most all Nebraskans," said Mayor Beutler. "When the good people of Norfolk called with the request, we didn't hesitate. Neighbor helping neighbor is a way of life for Nebraskans and we want to help in any way we can."
