The Antelope Valley trails in Union Plaza reopened today after JAVA (Joint Antelope Valley Authority) contractors completed their inspections of the bridges over the trails. The trails from "N" to "Q" streets were closed January 4 because of problems with cracking concrete surface material on the bottoms of the four bridges above the trails.
City officials said temporary repairs have been made, and the trails are safe for pedestrian and bicycle use. Permanent repairs will be made this spring. The City will continue to monitor the bridges for signs of surface cracking. The investigation into the cause of the cracking continues.
