The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department along with representatives of the Lincoln Community Foundation, Country Club Neighborhood Association and members of the Jan Pitsch family will dedicate a small piece of park land as Jan Pitsch Green at a ceremony Thursday, April 14 at noon. The public is welcome.
Jan Pitsch Green is located just west of 33rd Street and Sheridan Boulevard. Janis Pitsch lived across the street from the park area for many years, and was an active volunteer who worked hard to maintain and improve the planting areas in the neighborhood. Upon Jan's passing in 2008, she left a generous gift to the Lincoln Community Foundation to fund the initial landscaping improvements for the small park and for the roundabout median at 33rd and Sheridan, as well as a $70,000 endowment to provide for the perpetual landscaping care of the areas. Jan was also a dog lover, and future plans for the area include a sculptural form representing Jan's beloved poodle. Jan's gift to the Lincoln Community Foundation also included large gifts for no-kill dog shelters and programs.
