The public is invited to an open house Wednesday August 24 on reconstruction of the South Street bridge over Antelope Creek from 37th and 38th streets. The meeting is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Jim Ager Golf Course Club House, 3761 Normal Blvd., and is sponsored by the Joint Antelope Valley Authority (JAVA). This is the last major project to be bid as part of the Antelope Valley Project.
The project includes replacement of the existing South Street bridge over Antelope Creek, channel stabilization, water main relocation and sanitary sewer construction. The sanitary sewer construction will occur in the golf course area, but the course will remain open for normal play because the sanitary sewer will be micro-tunneled underground.
The 38th Street bridge over Antelope Creek just south of South Street will be removed and a turnaround "hammerhead" will be constructed south of Antelope Creek as part of this project.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early September 2011. Substantial completion of the entire project is scheduled for early summer 2012 with final completion in late 2012.
The open house will not include a formal presentation, but those attending will be able to review the proposed improvements and discuss the project with representatives from JAVA, the construction management team and the contractor.
The meeting room is accessible for persons with disabilities. Those requiring additional special accommodations are asked to call Kris Humphrey at 402-441-7711.
