The public is invited to participate in an open house on the N.W. 48th Street widening project from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28 at Arnold Elementary School, 5000 Mike Scholl Street.
The project will include the widening of the two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided road between West "O" Street and Highway 34. Those attending should park north of the school and enter through door #10.
Representatives from the City Public Works and Utilities Department and its project consultants will be available at the open house to discuss the project, answer questions and receive community feedback. No formal presentation is planned.
Design work on the project is scheduled to start this spring and be substantially completed by the end of 2014. Construction for the segment between West "O" Street and West Adams Street (including the West Adams Street intersection) is tentatively scheduled to take place in 2015, depending on completion of the right-of-way acquisition process. The segment between West Adams Street and Highway 34 is not scheduled for construction at this time, but preliminary design plans and environmental reviews will be completed.
This first public meeting is being held before design begins so engineers can incorporate community feedback into the design from the beginning of the project. The public is encouraged to comment on the entire project between West "O" Street and Highway 34. Those who are unable to attend the meeting can participate online by visiting the project website at nw48street.com or lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: nw48).
For more information about the meeting, contact Lisa Sedivy at 402-458-5992. Those needing special accommodations are asked to call at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
