Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful (KLLCB) is seeking volunteers to participate in Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup. The Great American Cleanup is the nation's largest community improvement program with about four million volunteers participating in 30,000 community improvement projects in 16,500 communities across the country. KLLCB is a program of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department.
Last year, 1,100 local volunteers cleaned about 415 miles of roadway, the equivalent of driving from Lincoln to Omaha about eight times. They also cleaned about 230 acres, the equivalent of cleaning Memorial Stadium 174 times and picked up about 105,000 pounds of trash and 64,000 pounds of recyclable material.
Individuals and volunteer groups are needed. To volunteer, contact KLLCB at firstname.lastname@example.org or 402-441-8035.
Funds for cleanup projects are available through neighborhood associations grants and Community Improvement Grants. For more information on these grant programs, visit lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: kllcb).
