Limited spots are available for the spring semester of the nature-based preschool at Pioneers Park Nature Center. Morning and afternoon sessions are available for children ages three through five on Tuesdays and Thursdays from January 8 to May 19. Preschool activities include hiking, climbing, digging, building and exploring the outdoors regardless of the weather. Interested families can contact the Preschool Director at 402-441-8669.
"Our preschool is built on the philosophy that children learn by doing," said Jamie Kelley, a Naturalist at the Nature Center. "The children learn colors, counting, shapes, sizes, and spatial awareness through nature exploration. Our staff is committed to our natural world, to active learning, and to fostering each child's strengths and potential for growth." Kelley said the nature curriculum is planned around seasonal themes.
Registration for the 2015 fall and 2016 spring semesters will begin February 1. Interested families are invited to learn more at a preschool open house from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 20 in the preschool wing at the Prairie Building. If the weather is bad, the open house will be postponed to Tuesday, January 27.
