Lincoln Ready for State Tournament Visitors

Mayor Chris Beutler today said those attending the state high school basketball championships will see first-hand the continued development of the West Haymarket and other new improvements across the City. The girls tournament is March 5 through 7, and the boys tournament is March 12 through 14. For the second year, some preliminary games and all championship games will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

"The combined attendance last year was 141,000, and we strive to make sure every player, coach and fan has a great experience in our Capital City," said Mayor Beutler. "Parking has never been easier, with all four of the West Haymarket parking garages now open. Those using our smart parking meters now have the convenience of paying with their mobile phones. The Arena has some great new food choices. And I hope visitors will check out the "P" Street improvements, visit Tower Square and take photos at our newest city icon, 'Ascent.'"

Pre-paid reserved parking at the Red 1 garage, 555 "R" Street, is available for $4 online at All other public parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. All-day parking is available for $5 at Red 1 and Green 2 garage, 530 "P" Street. In all other City garages and lots with the "Park and Go" signage, the first hour is free. The rate is then $1 per hour with a maximum of $9 for all-day parking. The facilities are:

Electric vehicle charging stations are available on the first floor of the Green 2 garage.

The rate at the downtown parking meters is $1 an hour. The meters accept credit, debit and pre-paid parking cards and dollar coins in addition to dimes and quarters. Information on using mobile phones to pay is posted on every meter. Meters are enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. More information is available at 402-441-PARK (7275) and

SMG is offering $5 all-day event parking at the large festival space north of Pinnacle Bank Arena off Sun Valley Boulevard. The lot is connected to the Arena by a pedestrian bridge. SMG also is offering $5 all-day event parking at the "premium" garage attached to the Arena. The SMG parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking for oversized vehicles can be arranged by calling Pinnacle Bank Arena at 402-904-4444 or PolygonCorp at 402-770-7659.

The UNL Bureau of Business Research estimates the tournaments have an average economic impact of $5.2 million to the City. The Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau will have staff at each venue to help with questions. More visitor information is available at
