The public is invited to the free "Party on the Plaza" from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, August 8 at Union Plaza. The event includes performances by the Youth Actors Academy of Lincoln at 4 p.m. and the Prairie Creek Ramblers at 4:30 p.m. Other activities include a poetry reading from the Writers Wordshop and an exhibit from Open Art Studio at the Jayne Snyder Trail Center. Activities for children will include chalk art, box hockey, bubbles and face painting. Food trucks will be available.

The event is part of the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department's Party in the Parks initiative to offer free performing and visual arts events in Lincoln's parks throughout the summer.
