Mayor Chris Beutler announced today that he offered the position of Lincoln Fire Chief to Jerome Schirmer, the Assistant Chief - Operations/Emergency Services for the Superstition Fire and Medical District in Arizona. Citing family reasons, Schirmer said he has decided to remove his name from consideration.
Schirmer was among four candidates interviewed by two panels November 11. The Mayor said his staff will contact the members of the community interview panels before deciding the next steps in the search process.
"The input of the interview panels is important to me as we move forward," Beutler said. "They did an outstanding job in evaluating the candidates interviewed last week, and Schirmer emerged as the consensus choice. I shared their viewpoint and offered him the job. Unfortunately, this is not the right time for him and his family to come to Lincoln. I wish him well and look forward to continuing our search."
Tim Linke has been serving as Interim Fire Chief of Lincoln Fire and Rescue since the retirement of John Huff in June 2015.
The City was assisted in the search process by Greg Prothman, founder of the Prothman Group, an Issaquah, Washington firm specializing in executive searches for governmental entities.
