The technology company Google has named Lincoln as the 2015 eCity of Nebraska. The eCity award recognizes the strongest online business community in each state - Google's "Digital Capitals of America." It is the second year in a row that Lincoln has been award winner for Nebraska.
Google partnered with research firm Ipsos to identify the strongest online communities in each state - cities whose businesses embrace the power of the web to drive growth, find new customers, connect with existing clients and fuel their local economies.
In a letter to Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, Susan Molinari, Google's Vice President for Public Policy and Government Relations, wrote, "The Internet plays a critical role in growing our local businesses and our local economies. With 97 percent of American Internet users looking online for local goods and services, businesses that make use of the web are growing twice as fast and creating twice as many jobs."
