Open House Set for Old Cheney Road Project

The public is invited to an open house Tuesday, March 22 on improvements to Old Cheney Road from 40th Street to Highway 2. The meeting is from 4 to 6 p.m. at Old Cheney Alliance Church, 5201 Old Cheney Road.

The project would include repairing or removing and replacing deteriorated concrete panels, joints and curbs; milling the concrete surface and covering it with asphalt; and sealing joints and cracks. Other work includes removing and replacing damaged storm drainage inlet tops, utility adjustments and restoration of traffic signals impacted by the work.

All work is expected to take place within existing right of way and easements. Lane closures are possible, but one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction on Old Cheney. Exceptions are brief closures at the intersections at 48th and 56th streets. The Old Cheney trail may be temporarily affected. Temporary detours would be used to maintain vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Construction could begin as early as spring of 2017 and could be complete by spring of 2018.

The project is currently in the design phase, and those attending the open house will be able to see more project details and provide input. Design information will be displayed and project team members will be available. No formal presentations are planned so the public may attend anytime during the two-hour meeting.

Information will be available for a 30-day comment period from today through April 6. Additional information is available at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: old cheney).
