Students Sought for Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications from students who are interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Two positions are open for those who will be enrolled as high school juniors or seniors during the 2016-2017 school year.

Applications are due Friday June 3 and are available in three ways:

· Download and complete an application form at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: PRAB).

· Contact Angela Chesnut at 402-441-8264 to request an application.

· Pick up an application at the Parks and Recreation Department office at 2740 "A" Street between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

"This is a great opportunity for students to get involved in local government," said Lynn Johnson, Parks and Recreation Director. "We value the unique perspective that students bring to this important advisory board."

This 16-member volunteer board advises the Parks and Recreation Department, the Mayor and the City Council on matters relating to parks and recreation facilities and programs. The two student members serve one-year terms, and students may serve more than one term. Service on the board can be used to satisfy community involvement hours. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meets at 4 p.m. the second Thursday of every month. Student members also have the opportunity to participate on one of the board's working committees.
