Time to "Slide Into Summer" With New Slides at Star City Shores

Star City Shores is celebrating its 20th year with new slides, and swimmers are invited to enter a contest to be among the first to go down the slides on opening day. Star City Shores is among the City's nine public pools that will open for the season Saturday, May 28.

The previous two water slides were part of the original construction and have been refinished, repainted and repaired many times, according to J.J. Yost, the Planning and Construction Manager of the Parks and Recreation Department.

"The slides had reached their life expectancy and had to be replaced to keep them safe and fun," Yost said. "The new slides were chosen to provide two different ride experiences that will appeal to all ages. One is similar to the original slides with multiple loops and a gradual slope. The other is an enclosed tube with a large vertical drop near the end for more adventure."

Those who win the 20 special event passes will be the first to go down the new slides. Swimmers can register in these three ways:

Ten passes will be awarded through Facebook, five will be drawn at Party on the Plaza and five will be given through KFOR. Each pass is good for two people, but only one will have the opportunity to be among the first to try the new slides.

Star City Shores is also celebrating its 20th year with birthday parties on the 20th of each month.

More information about the contest and birthday celebration is available at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: slide). Star City Shores is open from 12:30 to 8 p.m. every day through August 14. From August 15 through 19, the pool is open from 3:30 to 7 p.m. On August 20 and 21, the pool is open from 12:30 to 6 p.m.

The other public pools are open through August 14 at the following hours:

The free Trago Park sprayground is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day through Labor Day.

All pools will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Monday, July 4.
