Parks and Recreation Seeks Americorps Members

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for 27 part-time Youth on the Move AmeriCorps members to provide academic support to students from kindergarten through 12th grade in Lincoln Public Schools. Program Coordinator Deb Buckman said the positions offer members an opportunity to "be a hero in the community and get things done!"

Members will provide enrichment opportunities in the areas of literacy, science, technology, engineering, art, math and physical fitness. Members will provide academic opportunities through service learning and educational field trips and will provide services both during and outside of regular school hours. Youth on the Move AmeriCorps members will be located at Belmont, Calvert, "F" Street and Irving Recreation Centers; Belmont, Calvert, Everett, Goodrich and McPhee Community Learning Centers; the Asian Community and Cultural Center; and Lincoln High School.

Half-time AmeriCorps members must be 19 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED. They are required to complete 900 hours during a 10-month contract. Members receive a $301.27 living allowance every two weeks and an education award of $2,865 upon successful completion. To apply, contact Buckman at dbuckman@lincoln.ne.gov or 402-441-4907.
