Individuals, businesses and community organizations are needed again this winter to volunteer to shovel snow for those who are unable to clear their sidewalks and driveways themselves. The Public Works and Utilities Department's Snow Angels program links volunteers willing to shovel snow with residents who need the service. Those wishing to volunteer may sign up online at snow.lincoln.ne.gov.
About 40 individuals and St. Luke's United Methodist Church participated in Snow Angels last winter. Scott Opfer, Right of Way Manager, urged individuals, businesses and organizations to sign up before it snows so the service is available when it is needed. The program has helped several hundred residents with snow removal since its inception in 2012.
Those who need help can find volunteers near their home online at snow.lincoln.ne.gov/snow-angels (select "Map of Participating Volunteers") or by calling the Snow Center 402-441-7644 during regular business hours. Due to limited staffing, those needing assistance are asked to wait until after it has snowed to call the Snow Center for assistance.
