Libraries Encourage Daily Reading With 50 Beloved Books Challenge

Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) invites families to participate in the 50 Beloved Books Challenge from February through April. The book list includes some of the most popular and loved picture books, and parents are encouraged to read the books aloud to their children for at least 15 minutes a day. The book list is available at lincolnlibraries.org ("Get Started - Read Aloud 15 Minutes a Day"). Children up to age six are eligible to receive a certificate for a free Runza® kid's meal. Parents may sign up their children at any branch library.

"Research has shown that reading aloud to your child is the single most important thing parents can do to prepare their child for life-long learning success," said Vicki Wood, LCL Youth Services Supervisor.

The challenge kicks off on "Take your Child to the Library Day," Saturday, February 4, with fun activities at each library. The challenge is made possible with support from the Foundation for Lincoln City Libraries, Super Saver, and Runza®.
