Public Invited to Celebrate "Kids to Parks Day"

Party in the Parks Returns to Union Plaza

Lincoln families are invited to celebrate national Kids to Parks Day by participating in the Party on the Plaza from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 20 at Union Plaza, 21st and "P" streets. The free event is part of an effort by the National Park Trust to encourage communities to plan special events for Kids to Parks Day in local, state and national parks across the country.

"The national observance of Kids to Parks Day is the perfect opportunity to kick off the fifth year of our local Party in the Parks and second year of Play in the Parks events," said Melissa Lindeman, Parks and Recreation Program Monitor. "By encouraging families to enjoy arts and recreational activities in our beautiful public parks, we promote creativity, health and wellness and a feeling of community."

The event will feature family fun and fitness-themed activities such as, Gaga Pit, Golfzilla, Pickle Ball, bubbles, face painting and balloon twisting. A healthy snack will be provided by MedExpress. The schedule is as follows:

Party in the Parks began in 2013 to provide free community arts events in Union Plaza. In 2014, the Union Plaza Events became Party on the Plaza and the Party in the Parks initiative expanded to include other free performance and visual arts events in Lincoln's parks throughout the summer months. A calendar of Party in the Parks events is available at parks.lincoln.ne.gov.
